Statement
I look for the odd in us all. My hope is that a viewer laughs, wonders, feels concern and has more questions than answers upon viewing my art.

I have studied with and been strongly influenced by several outstanding artists, including Franklin Liegel, Jim Murray, Chuck Mardosz, Dan Beck and Sparky LeBold.

Art is Moot. Moot is Art.
• Moot as an adjective, "open to discussion".
• Moot as a noun, "a deliberative assembly".

In my art, I look for the strangeness in the mundane. I strive to create chaos from organization. Chaos in the form of imagery we might be comfortable with, but most likely are not. I initially drive to obtain from the viewer a confused look and a defensive laugh. A laugh more of fear than humor. Then later, upon acceptance of the imagery, a laugh of inner understanding and awareness. An "I get it" moment. That "I get it" moment may differ from person to person and be far different from mine.

But my art is not just about imagery, it's also about the title. A NY and LA gallery owner and art radio personality once told me "Titles are not important." After a moment of contemplation, I considered would "Stanley, Dead in the Tub" be as powerful as "The Death of Marat"? Would "The Melting Clock" be as meaningful as "The Persistence of Memory"? My titles are critical to the chaos I aim to create and help bring the viewer toward the "I get it" moment.

I paint in acrylic and work with textural materials to build a story upon the surface. The texture adds another layer to the story that paint alone cannot provide. My belief is that my art should be felt and touched to be understood. (Clean your hands, please.) The storytelling may manifest itself in diligent assemblage or may evolve from random expression in combination with realistic figurative imagery.
